1904 PT-1 Blue Label Cigar Makers Pin - James Tannehill
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $830
This extremely rare advertising pin is one of a series of sixteen pins which was issued by Blue Label Cigars to honor the 1903 Boston American first-ever World Champions. Each pin in the set features a player portrait in black and white surrounded by advertising for Blue Label Cigars. Blue Label Cigar Makers pins are one of the most elusive and fascinating of all early baseball advertising pinback sets. To the best of our knowledge, no complete set has ever been assembled in modern times; and the only complete set in existence, which surfaced in the collecting world thirty years ago, was put together in the year of issue. This example features pitcher Jess Tannehill. The original paper backing, displaying the name of the manufacturer, "A. R. Lopez, 17 Tremont St, Boston," remains intact on the reverse. The pin (1.5 inches in diameter) has some normal minor oxidation to the reverse and is otherwise in overall Excellent condition. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $830
