1920 Brooklyn Dodgers World Series Press Pin
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,304
Brooklyn Dodgers press pin issued for the 1920 World Series against the Cleveland Indians. This is a highly desirable early press-pin rarity. For many decades, since the earliest days of serious press-pin collecting, the pins dating from 1920 and earlier have universally been recognized as by far the rarest and most valuable. The bright red enamel border reads "World Series" and "1920" in gold lettering. The center displays a convex baseball design in gold that reads "Brooklyn." The red enamel border is flawless, with no wear or scratching as is usually found with this pin. The convex design of the center of this pin usually makes the gold center section susceptible to much wear and scratching. On this example the center-section flaws are mainly in the form of just minor tarnishing, primarily within the grooves of the incised letters and to a small area of the perimeter (located at about nine o'clock). There is also a tiny area of tarnishing on the outermost perimeter (also located at about nine o'clock). This is a particularly outstanding and high-grade example of this extremely rare and very early press pin. In Excellent to Mint condition. Manufactured by Dieges & Clust; threaded-post back; oval with scalloped border. Diameter: 0.75 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $1,304
