1946-1956 Brooklyn Dodgers World Series and All-Star Game Press Pin Collection (8)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,015

High-grade collection of every Brooklyn Dodgers World Series press pin issued between the years 1947 and 1956, plus a Brooklyn "phantom" pin issued for the 1946 World Series and a Brooklyn 1949 All-Star Game press pin. Unless otherwise noted, all of the pins have been manufactured by Dieges & Clust and feature threaded-post backs, with the exception of 1956 (which has a traditional clasp back as issued). 1) 1946 "Phantom." Because World Series press pins had to be ordered a few weeks in advance, teams that were locked into tight pennant races were often left with no choice but to order World Series press pins in the hope that they would be needed. Unfortunately for the Dodgers, its 1946 shipment was made obsolete after the Cardinals edged them by two games for the pennant. Almost all were destroyed but a few, including this example, were saved as souvenirs. The offered example remains attached to its original Dieges & Clust cardboard mount and is in Near Mint condition. 2) 1947 World Series press pin. Scarce press pin dating from Jackie Robinson's historic rookie season. This example has been reworked and made into a pendant. The original threaded-post back has been removed and an eyelet has been attached at the top for the insertion of a chain. There are also tape remnants on the reverse. Despite the modifications and flaws on the reverse, the front displays as Excellent to Mint. 3) 1949 World Series press pin. Nr-Mt. 4) 1952 World Series press pin. Nr-Mt. 5) 1953 World Series press pin. Nr-Mt. 6) 1955 World Series press pin. Nr-Mt. 7) 1956 World Series press pin. This pin, issued as a clasp, is not only the final Brooklyn Dodgers World Series press pin ever issued, but one of the scarcest. Nr-Mt. 8) 1949 Brooklyn Dodgers All-Star Game press pin. Nr-Mt (Balfour). Total: 8 pins.
