1910-1912 P2 Sweet Caporal Pin Ty Cobb PSA GEM MINT 10 - 1 of 1!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $6,518

Graded GEM MINT 10 by PSA. This is the ONLY example graded at this level and one of only five pins (of any subject!) to ever achieve GEM MINT status (out of 9,476 pins evaluated to date)! Striking and simply unbelievably perfect ultra high-grade example of key Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer Ty Cobb (small-letters variation) from the very popular circa 1910 P2 Sweet Caporal pin set. The P2 Sweet Caporal pin set is one of the most substantial and overlooked of all baseball tobacco inserts. Because cards naturally get most of the attention among tobacco inserts, P2 pins represent a particularly excellent value for collectors. Ty Cobb is certainly one of the keys to the set, and is one of the classic Cobb tobacco premiums issued during this era. The offered pin is exceptional and flawless in every way with perfect registration, natural gloss, and totally free of any rust, crazing, or scratches. The reverse is also perfectly clean with the paper Sweet Caporal advertisement intact and positioned in the pinback. No tobacco cards of Ty Cobb have ever been graded GEM MINT 10 by PSA and this P2 pin of Ty Cobb is the lone representative of any 1910-era tobacco-premium issue of any kind grading GEM MINT PSA 10. If this were a card, it would sell for a fortune! (A PSA GEM MINT 10 T206 Ty Cobb, for example, if one existed, would easily sell for over $100,000; even T206 Ty Cobb PSA NM-MT 8 examples sell for tens of thousands of dollars when offered.) This is the first PSA GEM MINT 10 P2 pin (of any player!) we have ever seen, and we have to say it is entirely deserving of this lofty grade! P2s represent one of the best values of all 1910-era tobacco issues. There is no SMR value for GEM MINT examples, but a MINT 9 lists for $1,650. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $6,518
