1945 Negro League All-Star Game Program with Jackie Robinson
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,067
Extremely rare Negro League program issued for the annual East vs. West All-Star Game held on July 29, 1945, at Comiskey Park. This particular program is all the more historically significant because it features Jackie Robinson in the starting lineup for the West, in what would be his one and only season of play in the Negro League. As a member of the Kansas City Monarchs in 1945, Robinson quickly established himself as one of the top players in the league. Like many of the other participants, Robinson is pictured in the program, with the caption below commenting on his abilities: "Jackie Robinson, of UCLA fame, now earning new laurels as short stop for the Kansas City Monarchs. A .350 hitter in mid-July, Robinson is rated by many experts as the rookie find of the year." The preprinted starting lineups include Josh Gibson, Martin Dihigo, and Buck Leonard for the East, and Jackie Robinson, Lloyd Davenport, and Alex Radcliffe for the West. Satchel Paige and Roy Campanella are also listed as "reserves" for their respective clubs. The 28-page program is not scored and displays a paperclip impression along the top border and a few minor creases. In Excellent condition overall. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,067
