Circa 1925 Philadelphia Giants Negro League Broadside
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $593
Circa 1925 broadside heralding a pair of July 4th baseball games featuring the Philadelphia Giants. As noted here, the 10:30 morning game paired the Giants and "Checker Taxi" at the "Walpole Street Grounds," while the 3:15 afternoon contest matched the Giants against "South Boston Twilight" at the "Christopher Lee Playgrounds, South Boston." The base of the broadside displays a beautiful photographic image of the Philadelphia Giants posing in uniform in front of their team bus. The name and phone number of the club's booking agent is printed below the photo. The poster (10.25 x 15.25 inches), printed on thick, glossy paper stock, displays both horizontal and vertical mailing folds as issued (the poster was distributed through the mail). In spite of a small tear along the one of the horizontal fold lines, as well as a few very minor creases, it still has a strong Excellent appearance overall. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 19.5 x 24.5 inches. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $593
