1955 Brooklyn Dodgers Schaefer Beer Advertising Display and Jake Pitler Mug

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $415

Pair of Brooklyn Dodger commemorative pieces, one familiar and the other rare, issued by Schaefer Beer during the historic 1955 World Championship season. The familiar piece is a classic from the era: a 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers Schaefer Beer Advertising Display. The self-framed 1950s cardboard advertising piece with easel-stand reverse features a die-cut team picture of the World Champion 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers. The uniquely designed display is composed of three individual photos of players (each representing a different row), with players die-cut, and with each row spaced so as to create a three dimensional effect. The elaborate design of this fragile cardboard display piece makes it extremely susceptible to damage and it is rarely, if ever, found in anything even approaching Mint condition. This example is no exception and displays many of the flaws common to it, including a torn player head (Campanella), a repaired tear to another player head, numerous tears to the border areas, and a number of moderate-to-heavy creases throughout. In Good condition overall. Dimensions: 20.75 x 14.5 inches. The more obscure piece, and the first example we have ever offered, is a glass-bottom mug issued to coach Jake Pitler. The 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers opened the season with a record ten consecutive wins and this mug was issued to commemorate that event. The engraving on the front reads "Schaefer Beer/Commemorating/Record Smashing Get-Away/10 In A Row/Brooklyn Dodgers/1955/Jake Pitler." The markings on the underside include the name of the manufacturer ("Dunhill") and the mug's composition ("Britannia Metal"). Additional markings are "1Pt," "586," and "T." While we cannot state with certainty, the scarcity of this piece, combined with the fact that it features the name of a team member, probably indicates that they were only presented to players and employees. The mug displays moderate wear and is in Very Good condition. Height: 5.25 inches. Base diameter: 4.25 inches. Total: 2 items (die-cut display and mug). Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $415
