1951 Bobby Thomson "Shot Heard Round The World" Playoff Game Full Proof Ticket

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,133

Addendum. Please note that this example is a proof ticket, as it does not list a section number.

Exceedingly rare full ticket ("Upper Box Seat") to the third and final playoff game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants held at the Polo Grounds on Wednesday, October 3, 1951. This was the game in which Bobby Thomson hit one of the most dramatic home runs in baseball history: a three-run game-winning shot in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Giants an improbable 5-4 win and the pennant. That famous home run, known today as "The Shot Heard Round The World," was further immortalized by Giants radio announcer Russ Hodges' unforgettable call, made famous by the repeated refrain, "the Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant..." This is only the second full ticket to that historic game we have ever seen and we cannot imagine a finer example. Aside from the tiniest bit of corner wear in the upper left, the ticket (6.25 x 1.5 inches) remains in Near Mint to Mint condition. This is truly one of the most significant tickets of the postwar era and one that is absent from even the most advanced collections. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,133
