1948-1951 "Boys of Summer" Snapshot-Photo Collection - With Three Signed: Roy Campanella, Duke Snider, and Carl Erskine

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $948

Collection of thirty-five original snapshot photos, spanning the years 1948-1951, capturing various members of the Brooklyn Dodgers, both on and off the field. Ideally, three of the photographs have been signed on the front in vintage blue fountain pen (grading "9/10") by the respective player pictured: Campanella, Snider, and Erskine. This is a wonderful set of vintage photographs, all of which are candid in nature, featuring many of the club's most prominent players, including Robinson, Campanella, Snider, and Hodges. Nine of the photos picture the players in uniform on the field, while the remainder capture them as they are exiting Ebbets Field. It is interesting to note that both of the Jackie Robinson photos, taken during his 1949 MVP season, picture him leaving the stadium after a game, and in each instance he is surrounded by a number of uniformed police officers (none of the other black players pictured here, including Campanella, are similarly guarded). The name of each respective player, as well as the date, is written in blue ink on the reverse of all but one photo. The players represented here, with the number of photos for each player (if more than one) noted in parentheses, are Jackie Robinson (2), Roy Campanella (5, one signed), Duke Snider (3, one signed), Gil Hodges (4), Arky Vaughan, Preacher Roe (4), Carl Furillo (3), Don Newcombe, Billy Cox, Carl Erskine (2, one signed), George Shuba, Rex Barney, Bruce Edwards, Gene Hermanski, Chuck Connors (2), Cal Abrams, Ralph Branca, and Rube Walker. All of the photos measure 3.5 x 5 inches and have scalloped edges. Excellent condition overall. Total: 35 photos (three signed). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $948
