1950s Hilda Chester Signed Card and Original News Photo - Legendary Brooklyn Dodgers Fan!
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $474
Hilda Chester is perhaps the most famous baseball fan in history, who, with her booming voice and signature cowbell, was a fixture at Ebbets Field for decades. Offered here are an original news photo and rare signature example of Brooklyn's most royal rooter. 1) Original 1949 Associated Press news photo capturing Hilda Chester as she receives a bracelet from the Brooklyn Dodgers for "Loyalty" as the best bleacher fan. The original paper news caption, dated 8/7/49, is taped to the reverse. Vg, with a small blemish in the center of the photo, as well as minor creasing and tiny edge tears. 9 x 7 inches. 2) Fold-over greeting card, titled "Congratulations on Your Success!" Inscribed in blue fountain pen (grading "9/10") on the interior, "Hilda Chester/51 Green Ave./Bklyn N.Y.C." This is only the second Hilda Chester signed item we have ever seen and one that would be a most unusual and interesting addition to any advanced Brooklyn Dodgers or baseball fandom collection. Ex, with a small amount of adhesive residue on the reverse from having once been mounted in an album. 4 x 5.5 inches (folded). Total: 2 items (photo and card). LOA from James Spence/JSA.
