1959 "Roy Campanella Night" Program and Ticket Stub
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $593
Program and ticket stub from "Roy Campanella Night," held on May 7, 1959, at the Los Angeles Coliseum. A total of 93,103 fans turned out that night to honor Campanella, who was confined to a wheel chair after having been paralyzed in an automobile accident a year earlier. The Dodgers played the Yankees in an exhibition game that evening, with the Dodgers' share of the gate donated to Campanella (the Yankees donated its share to various other charities). In a moving ceremony, Campanella, in between tears, told the crowd, "This is something I'll never forget. I thank God I'm living to be able to see it; it's a wonderful thing." This is the first time we have offered either the program or ticket stub from that night, which is surprising given the number of people who attended the game. The thirty-page program (8.5 x 10.75 inches), which is not scored, displays a minor tear and a few areas of light discoloration on the back cover and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. The ticket stub (4 x 2.5 inches), featuring a photo of Campanella on the front, remains in Excellent condition. Reserve $100. Estimate $200+. SOLD FOR $593
