1956 Brooklyn Dodgers Tour of Japan Airplane Bag
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $711
Offered here is a seldom-seen item issued during the Brooklyn Dodgers' 1956 Tour of Japan: a Pan Am travel bag. The small blue airplane bag is lettered in white "Brooklyn Dodgers/Tour To Japan 1956," on one side and "PAA/Pan American World Airways" on the other. The bag (approximately 15 x 6 x 8 inches), which has a fully functional zipper, displays light-to-moderate wear and remains in Excellent condition overall. This is one of only a few examples of this bag (which was issued only to the Dodgers players and Dodgers organization personnel who accompanied them on the 1956 Tour of Japan) we have seen and the first we have ever offered. Accompanying the bag is a small blue-cloth change purse, circa 1960, that is fashioned in the shape of Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap. The purse features the letters "LA" appliquéd in white felt on the front and a white button on top. This is the first example of this novelty purse we have seen. The purse (5 x 4 inches) displays light wear, with some minor tearing to the felt letters, and is in Excellent condition overall. Total: 2 items (bag and change purse). Reserve $200. Estimate $500+.
