Circa 1935 Babe Ruth and 1962 Roger Maris Flip Books (2)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $474

These very scarce flip books span decades but have one primary element in common: each features the home-run swing in "flip book action form" of the most celebrated home-run hitter in its day. Presented is a pair of baseball flip books featuring, respectively, Babe Ruth and Roger Maris. 1) Circa 1935 flip book, titled Babe Ruth in the "Home Run" A Miniature Movie, issued as a promotional giveaway for Lion Brand shirts. The book features Babe Ruth at bat on the cover. The pages, when "flipped", allow the viewer to see a short movie of Ruth at the plate hitting a home run. As noted by the faded stamp on the back cover, this particular book was given to a patron compliments of "Jack & Mack Shop Inc." This is one of just a few examples of this substantial and ideal-for-display (because he is pictured on the cover) Ruth flip book we have seen. 1.75 x 2.5 inches. Vg, with light wear commensurate with its age and former use, including two small ink marks on the back cover. 2) 1962 Roger Maris flip book, titled Roger Maris' Batting Secrets, issued by David Blumenthal Associates, Inc. The cover features a photo of Maris in a batting pose. The interior flip pages picture Maris in full swing, while the text provides instruction on hitting. (Note: There are reproductions of this flip book; this is an original.) The back cover provides the dates for each of Maris' 61 home runs during the 1961 season. 2.75 x 4 inches. Ex, with a small corner crease on the back cover. Total: 2 flip books. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $474
