1927 Original New York Yankees Team News Photo - PSA/DNA Type 1
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,659
Original news photo capturing the 1927 World Champion New York Yankees in a classic team pose. Encapsulated and certified by PSA/DNA as an original Underwood & Underwood Type 1 news-service photograph. Twenty-nine members of the club are pictured here posing together in front of the grandstands at Yankee Stadium, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, manager Miller Huggins, Herb Pennock, Earle Combs, Wait Hoyt, Tony Lazzeri, Bob Meusel, Bob Shawkey, and Mark Koenig. The original paper news caption remains affixed to the reverse, which identifies the club as "The Yankees, winner of the 1927 pennant in the American League," indicating that this photo was taken just prior to the World Series. A few additional pencil notations and stampings appear on the reverse, including the date "Oct 3, 1927" on the paper news caption. The 1927 New York Yankees, powered by Ruth, Gehrig, and the other members of baseball’s famed “Murderers' Row,” are still considered by many historians to be the greatest team ever assembled. Their World Series performance that year certainly affirmed that title, as the Yankees easily swept the Pirates in four straight games. The photo (9.25 x 7.25 inches) displays two extremely tiny creases along the top border (only visible when viewed at certain angles) that do not detract in the least from its overall Near Mint appearance. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500+. SOLD FOR $1,659
