1928 and 1930 Spalding Uniform and Bat Brochures with Ruth and Gehrig

Pair of Spalding equipment catalogs, one dating from 1928 and the other from 1930. 1) 1929 Spalding catalog. This eight-page catalog (11 x 8 inches) was specially produced for distribution to American Legion baseball clubs. As noted by the letter on the cover, all of the prices reflect discounts that "are made with the understanding that all of the material purchased at these prices will be for use of teams taking part in the American Legion Junior Base Ball Tournament." The interior pages features different balls and uniforms offered by the company for Legion play. The back cover features a beautiful photograph of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig (each in their respective "Bustin' Babes" and "Larrupin' Lou's" tour uniforms) posing together with Christy Walsh. The caption above the photo reads "Spalding uniforms and equipment made our tour a success." The front and back cover are both nearly completely detached along the spine, otherwise in Very Good to Excellent condition. 2) 1930 Spalding bat catalog. The twenty-page catalog (9 x 12 inches) is devoted exclusively to the company's bat line and features endorsements from many of the game's top stars, including Lefty O'Doul (featured on the cover), Jimmie Foxx, Hack Wilson, Pie Traynor, Heinie Manush, Charley Gehringer, Frankie Frisch, and Gabby Hartnett. Numerous illustrations of both the player-endorsed bats and generic bats are featured within. Also included is a blank order form. The cover displays numerous areas of light discoloration, but the pages are clean and bright. In Very Good condition overall. Total: 2 catalogs. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,067
