1915 Newark "Peps" Federal League Team Photo
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $474
Original photo picturing twenty-two members of the 1915 Newark Peps, members of the Federal League. Interestingly, four of the players are seen wearing "Indianapolis" uniforms. That anomaly is easily explained by the fact that the Newark Peps began play in the Federal League as the Indianapolis Hoosiers in 1914: however, the franchise was relocated to Newark, New Jersey, the following year for economic reasons. Although we can conclusively identify Germany Schaefer (fifth from the left in the bottom row), we believe that both Edd Roush (fourth from the right in the bottom row?) and Bill McKechnie (third from the left in the bottom row?) are also represented here, as both were key members of the team in 1915. Any and all items relating to the short-lived Federal League (1914-1915), especially team photos, are exceedingly rare. This is the only example of a 1915 Newark Peps team photo we have ever seen. The photo (13 x 5.5 inches), which has been mounted onto heavy cardboard (13 x 7.75 inches), displays a few extremely tiny surface blemishes and is in Excellent to Mint condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $474
