1913 Christy Mathewson and John McGraw World Series Photo by Charles Conlon - PSA/DNA Type 1

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $711

Original photograph, taken by legendary photographer Charles Conlon, capturing John McGraw and Christy Mathewson posing together on the steps of the dugout prior to a 1913 World Series game. Accompanied by an LOA from PSA/DNA certifying it as an original Type 1 Charles Conlon photograph. Conlon's proprietary stamp, reading "Charles Conlon/Evening Telegram/New York," appears on the reverse, as does the vintage handwritten notation "World Series 1913." The A's defeated the Giants in five games in the 1913 World Series, with Mathewson responsible for New York's lone victory. The fact that McGraw and Mathewson are pictured in their home, white uniforms indicates that this photo was taken at either Game 1, Game 3, or Game 5 of the Series. The photo (3.5 x 4.5 inches) appears to be slightly trimmed to its current dimensions and displays a tiny surface blemish or emulsion along the left border (not affecting McGraw's image), as well as surface paper residue on the reverse as a result of the photo having once been mounted, and then removed, from an album. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $711
