Nineteenth-Century Brooklyn Dodgers Program Collection (5)

Collection of five nineteenth-century programs/scorecards, each involving a game played by Brooklyn. Four of the programs were issued for games at Brooklyn, while the other was issued for a game at New York. Featured are programs from Brooklyn's time in both the American Association and National League, including their last season in the A.A., in 1889, and their first season in the N.L. in 1890. 1) 1884 American Association scorecard. New York (vs. Brooklyn). The fold-over scorecard features a generic illustration of a player on the cover, below which is the caption "Home Run Spoiled." The preprinted lineups include Esterbrook, Orr, Brady, and Keefe for New York, and Walker, Cassidy, Remsen, and Geer for Brooklyn. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 3-2 New York win on July 22nd. 3.75 x 6 inches (folded). Vg-Ex. 2) 1885 American Association scorecard. Brooklyn (vs. Cincinnati). The fold-over scorecard features a portrait illustration of Brooklyn infielder Bill McClellan on the cover. The preprinted lineups include McClellan, Swartwood, Krieg, and Pinkney for Brooklyn, and McPhee, Carpenter, Fennelly, and Reilly for Cincinnati. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 6-0 Cincinnati win on June 10th. 3.75 x 6 inches (folded). Gd-Vg, with interior pencil notations, uneven toning on the interior, and a few light creases and edge tears. 3) 1889 American Association program. Brooklyn (vs. Baltimore). The substantial 32-page yearbook-style program features portrait images and short biographies for nearly all of the Brooklyn team members. The preprinted lineups include Pinkney, Collins, Burns, Foutz, and Corkhill for Brooklyn, and Griffin, Tucker, Mack, Hornung, and Farrell for Baltimore. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 7-2 Brooklyn win on April 20th (second game of the doubleheader played that day). 5 x 6.5 inches. Vg, with minor edge tears to the covers and additional pencil notations on the scoring pages. 4) 1890 National League program. Brooklyn (vs. Cincinnati). The substantial 32-page yearbook-style program features portrait images and short biographies for nearly all of the Brooklyn team members. The preprinted lineups include Pinkney, Collins, Burns, Foutz, and Donovan for Brooklyn, and McPhee, Mullane, Holliday, Reilly, and Knight for Cincinnati. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 9-2 Brooklyn win on July 11th. 5 x 6.5 inches. Gd, with small edge tears to the covers and missing the binding string (the pages are all detached from the covers). 5) 1899 National League program. Brooklyn (vs. Cleveland). The eight-page program features a portrait image of Hall of Fame outfielder Willie Keeler on the cover. The preprinted lineups include Keeler, Kelley, Jones, Daly, and Casey for Brooklyn, and Dowd, Harley, Quinn, Sullivan, and McAllister for Cleveland. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 20-2 Brooklyn win on August 17th. 6 x 9 inches. Gd, with surface paper loss to the front cover, a vertical fold, and ink notations on the front cover.
