1867-1915 Baseball-Guide Collection Including 1867 Beadle's Guide (7)

Collection of seven early baseball guides spanning the years 1867 to 1915. Highlighted by a particularly rare and significant 1867 Beadle's Dime Base-Ball Player guide. All measure approximately 4.5 x 6.5 inches and are complete with both covers. 1) 1867 Beadle's Dime Base-Ball Player, edited by Henry Chadwick (Beadle and Company, New York). The Beadle's Dime Base-Ball Player is of extraordinary significance since it was the very first baseball guide published for commercial sale to the public. Published annually between the years 1860 and 1881, this guide presented all important information relating to the game of baseball, including rules and regulations, proceedings of the annual baseball conventions, a history of the game, team rosters and representatives, accounts of the previous season for the most prominent teams, and averages, scores of important games, and other statistics, etc. Examples from the 1860s are particularly rare and desirable.Moderate wear, including a few minor creases, tiny edge tears and light foxing to some to the pages. Vg-Ex. In exceptionally fine condition for this significant early rarity. 2) 1884 De Witt's Base Ball Guide. Moderate wear, including former owner's name on the cover and small edge tears. Vg. 3) 1889 Chadwick's Base Ball Manual. Ex, with a few tiny edge tears and slight separation of the front cover along the spine. 4) 1910 The Bull Durham Base Ball Guide. Vg, with a cigar manufacturer's label on the cover and a few moderate tears. 5) 1914 Spalding's Base Ball Guide. Vg-Ex, with a few small tears to the back cover and spine. 6) 1915 Reach Official American League Base Ball Guide. Gd, with large tear to the back cover (paper loss), as well as other small tears. 7) 1915 Spalding's Official Base Ball Record. Vg-Ex. Total: 7 guides. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,015
