1876 Constitution and Playing Rules of the National League - Inaugural Season!
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $4,148
Constitution and Playing Rules of the National League of Professional Base Ball Clubs. First edition, published by Reach & Johnston (Philadelphia, 1876). Extremely significant and rare volume of the first Constitution of the National League dating from the League's inaugural season in 1876. This historic volume includes a tremendous amount of information relating to the newly formed National League, including minutes from the meetings relating to the League’s formation, as well as presenting the first playing rules adopted by the League. The book even includes a preliminary listing of the officers and players from each of the National League’s inaugural teams. An important and fascinating relic documenting the birth of the National League. The fragile, soft cover construction suggests that collectors should not expect to find this book in high grade. This example (4 x 6.25 inches) displays heavy wear throughout, including near-complete separation of both covers (possibly once repaired with glue or tape), toning, small areas of light discoloration, and numerous edge tears. In Good condition overall. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $4,148
