1941 Boston Red Sox Signed Ball with Williams, Foxx, and Berg - Williams' .406 Season!
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,963
Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in blue ink by the following seven members of the 1941 Boston Red Sox: Jimmie Foxx (sweet spot, "10"), Ted Williams (alone on a side panel, "8"), Joe Cronin (player/manager), Woody Rich, Charlie Wagner, Johnny Peacock, and Bill Fleming. The ball has also been signed by Moe Berg, who played with the Red Sox from 1935 to1939. The date, "April 22, 1941," is written in vintage blue ink on a side panel. The Washington Senators defeated the Boston Red Sox 12-5 at Griffith Stadium on the date B. C. Clark obtained this ball. What makes this ball especially significant today is that it dates from the historic season in which Ted Williams hit .406. Williams went 2-4 in the loss, which helped raise his batting average to .444. The outstanding Jimmie Foxx signature on the sweet spot only adds to its appeal. The ball displays light-to-moderate soiling that is consistent with its having been a game-used ball (as are nearly all of the balls in the B. C. Clark Collection; see introduction for full details and provenance). In Very Good to Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,963
