1937 New York Yankees Signed Ball with Lou Gehrig and Joe McCarthy
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $7,110
Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in blue fountain pen by the following seven members of the 1937 World Champion New York Yankees: Lou Gehrig (sweet spot; grading "9"), McCarthy (Mgr., sweet spot), Earle Combs (coach), Lefty Gomez, Jake Powell, Pat Malone, and Joe Glenn. Signatures range from ""6" to "9," averaging "8." The date, "July 4, 1937," is printed in vintage blue ink on a side panel. The Yankees capped a six-game road trip by defeating the Washington Senators 7-0 at Griffith Stadium on July 4, 1937. Gehrig went 1-4 in the game, while Gomez went the distance on the mound for his tenth win of the year. The ball displays light soiling that is consistent with its having been a game-used ball (as are nearly all of the balls in the B. C. Clark Collection; see introduction for full details and provenance). In Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $7,110
