1937 World Series Multisigned Ball with Ruth, Gehrig, and DiMaggio
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $7,110
Red-stitched ball (most likely an official American League ball) signed in blue fountain pen by the following participants and attendees at the 1937 World Series: Babe Ruth (grading "6"), Lou Gehrig ("8"), Joe DiMaggio ("6"), Mickey Cochrane (sweet spot), Joe McCarthy, Lefty Gomez, Blondy Ryan, Frank Makosky, Paul Schreiber (Yankee coach), and Pat Malone. Signatures range from "6" to "8," averaging "7." The ball's World Series provenance is based upon the vintage blue-ink notation on the south panel (which unfortunately overlaps the "R" in "Ruth") that reads "Oct 7th 1937/World Series/Yankee Stadium." The Yankees defeated the Giants 8-1 in Game 2 of the 1937 World Series held on October 7th at Yankee Stadium. We cannot recall the last time we saw the vintage signatures of Ruth, Gehrig, and DiMaggio together on the same ball, making this an especially rare and desirable example for Yankee collectors. The ball displays moderate-to-heavy soiling (none of the manufacturer's labels are visible) that is consistent with its having been a game-used ball (as are nearly all of the balls in the B. C. Clark Collection; see introduction for full details and provenance). In Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $7,110
