1935 R331 National Chicle Football SGC-Graded Complete Set Minus One (35/36)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $6,600
Extremely attractive complete set (minus one) of 1935 R331 National Chicle Football cards. This set is missing only Bronko Nagurski (which we have separated from the set to offer individually as its own lot in this auction). All thirty-five cards are graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). The SGC grades are as follows: One EX/NM 80: #19. One EX+ 70: #14. Six EX 60: #3, 5, 8, 10 Battles (HOF), 18, and 23 Feathers RC. Four VG/EX+ 55: #4, 16, 17, and 20. Four VG/EX 50: #2, 6, 26, and 30. Four VG+ 45: #1 Clark (HOF), 13, 28, and 29. Seven VG 40: #12, 22, 24 Hinkle (HOF), 27 Tosi, 31, 33, and 35. One GOOD+ 35: #7 Strong (HOF). Three GOOD 30: #21, 25, and 32. Three FAIR 20: #11 Edwards (HOF), 15, and 36. One Authentic: #9 Rockne (encapsulated as "Authentic" solely because it did not meet the minimum size requirement for a numerical grade; it is not trimmed and is in Gd+ condition). This is a very attractive set of the most popular 1930s football issue, with many cards appearing far better than suggested by their very respectable, technically accurate grades. The equivalent total SMR for the assigned grades (not including the one "Authentic" and factoring in the thirteen half-grades at the lower whole-grade level) is $3,161. Total: 36 cards.
The items in this lot are part of the deaccessioned property of a prominent northeast museum which has selected Robert Edward Auctions to handle the sale of donated sportscards and memorabilia in an effort to fund purchases more in line with the mission and goals of the museum. SOLD FOR $6,600
