1930s Wheaties Football Partial and Complete Set Collection (5 sets, 33 cards)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,440

Collection of five complete or near-complete sets of Wheaties Football (totaling thirty-three cards) produced during the 1930s. These sets feature a variety of college football stars, many of which went on to become members of the College Football and/or NFL Halls of Fame. The 1930s Wheaties package-design football cards are much rarer than the baseball series produced by Wheaties during the same period. 1) 1935 Wheaties Series 1 "Fancy Frame Script Signatures" Complete Set (7 cards): Each displays writing on the blank reverse identifying the series. Without respect to this flaw and the neatness of cutting, condition is as follows: Cagle (pinhole, otherwise Ex, frame intact), Friedman (Vg-Ex), Grange (Vg-Ex, extreme outside of the frame trimmed away, otherwise 90% intact), Jones (Vg, frame intact along with bottom advertisement reinforced with tape), Kipke (Ex, frame intact), Nevers (Nr/Mt, trimmed to image), and Warner (Ex, trimmed to image). 2) 1936 Wheaties Series 3 "All-Americans" Near-Complete Set (11 cards): Missing Beise for completion. Eight cards remain on fully intact panels, measuring approximately 6 x 8.5 inches, while three cards (Bierman, Moscrip, and Smith) have been cut down to the image. Without respect to the neatness of cutting, condition is Vg to Ex for Lester, Millner, Pilney, Smith, Wasicek, and Wilson, and Gd for Spain and Michaels, due to tears in the outside areas of the panels (not affecting the images). 3) 1936 Wheaties Series 4 "Coaches" Complete Set (7 cards): Consists of Bierman, Crowley, Dawson, Kerr, McMillin, Stuhldreher, and Waldorf. Each displays writing on the blank reverse identifying the series. Without respect to this flaw and the neatness of cutting, overall condition is Vg to Vg-Ex on fully-intact panels, measuring approximately 6 x 8.5 inches, with two lesser (Bierman and Waldorf) due to tears or creasing. 4) 1935 Wheaties Series 5 "Big Ten Football Game" Near-Complete Set (4 cards): Missing Nagurski for completion. Particularly rare series of Wheaties. Each panel is fully intact, measuring approximately 6 x 8.25 inches. Consists of Danowski, Herber, Kercheval, and Manske. Without respect to the neatness of cutting, overall condition is Vg-Ex to Ex. One card (Manske) has the year written in pencil on the reverse. 5) 1935 Wheaties Series 6 "Six-Man Football" Near-Complete Set (4 cards): Missing #1 Dawson and 6 Solem for completion. Consists of #2 Kerr, 3 Thornhill, 4 Holligberry, and 5 Bierman. Without respect to the neatness of cutting, overall condition is Vg to Vg-Ex. One card (Bierman) has a small punchhole near the center. This is the first time we have offered any quantity of 1930s Wheaties Football cards, and to the best of our knowledge, this is one of the most complete assemblies ever offered from the six different series comprising a complete run of Wheaties Football. This is a tremendous collection of these football-card rarities, from an extremely old-time collection. Total: 33 cards. SOLD FOR $1,440
