1973 Jerry Moses New York Yankees Game Used Home Jersey with Yankee Stadium 50th Anniversary Patch

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $600

New York Yankees home jersey worn by catcher Jerry Moses during the 1973 season, a year which marked the 50th anniversary of Yankee Stadium. The white pinstripe knit jersey features the Yankees "NY" logo on the left breast and the number "23" on the reverse, both of which are appliquéd in tackle twill. The name "Moses" is chain-stitched in navy upon a white strip tag in the collar. Located on the left front tail are a "Wilson 46" label and a white strip tag bearing the year and set number ("73 Set 1") chain-stitched in blue. The one-year-only Yankee Stadium 50th Anniversary patch adorns the left sleeve. This jersey was almost certainly sent down for use in the minor leagues following the 1973 season (a common practice) as evidenced by the fact that the "NY" logo on the front has been restored (the outline of the original "NY" logo can be seen, as can the stitch marks from the minor-league logo that replaced it), as has the anniversary patch on the sleeve. Additionally, the name "Lloyd" is written in the collar in black marker below the sewn-in name tag. Research indicates that Benny Lloyd played with the Oneonta Yankees from 1975 to 1977. Both Moses and Lloyd were 6 feet, 3 inches tall, and, presumably, were close in weight as well. With the exception of the restored "NY" logo and patch, the jersey is unaltered and displays heavy wear (indicative of more than one season of use), including a few light stains. The jersey is also affected by light spotting throughout that appears to be related to its later method of storage rather than use. 1973 was the final season ever played at the original Yankee Stadium, which underwent a two-year renovation before reopening again in 1976, making this a historically significant Yankee garment. It is also rare to find 1973 Yankee jerseys complete with the 50th Anniversary patch (albeit restored). Jerry Moses, who was a former All-Star with the Boston Red Sox, only played one season with the Yankees. As the backup to Thurman Munson, in 1973 Moses appeared in twenty-one games, finishing the year with no home runs, 3 RBI, and a .254 batting average. This is a highly desirable New York Yankees jersey dating from the club's final season in the original Yankee Stadium.
