2008 Derek Jeter Signed Pro-Model Bat with Signed LOA from Jeter (Steiner Sports) Attesting to its Game Use

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,400

Derek Jeter Louisville Slugger signature-model "P72" bat dating from the 2008 season. This bat comes with outstanding provenance in the form of a typed-signed LOA from Jeter, on Steiner Sports letterhead, in which he attests to having used it in 2008. Jeter has further documented its game-used status by personally inscribing the bat "Derek Jeter/08 Game Used" in silver paint pen (grading "10") on the sweet spot of the barrel. The bat, which is not cracked, displays moderate use, including ball marks and a light residue of Mota Stick on the handle. Heavy deadwood is evident on the side of the barrel that includes grain separation as well as the loss of a few slight slivers of wood (exposing the underlying wood beneath the black surface). Derek Jeter is the greatest shortstop in New York Yankees history and one of the few players to be honored with the title of "Captain." Since Jeter's debut in 1995, the Yankees have won seven pennants and five World Championships, not to mention fourteen out of eighteen division titles. Like Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle before him, Jeter personifies the current Yankees dynasty and it seems assured that one day his plaque will hang both in Yankee Stadium's Monument Park and Cooperstown. Jeter batted .300 with 11 home runs and 69 RBI in 2008. Today, his .311 lifetime average ranks seventh among all active players. Length: 34.25 inches. Weight: 31.4 ounces. COA from Steiner Sports (corresponding hologram label affixed to the barrel). LOA from James Spence/JSA.
