2003 New York Yankees American League Championship Pendant

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,600

Addendum: Please note that the catalog description for this item is in error. This pendant is a 2003 New York Yankees American League championship pendant NOT a 2001 pendant.

Rare New York Yankees pendant, produced by Balfour, issued in commemoration of the club's 2003 American League Championship. The 14K-gold pendant, which is nearly identical in design to the front of the club's 2003 American League Championship ring, features the Yankees top hat logo amid approximately 52 small diamonds. The lettering along the perimeter of the bezel reads "Yankees American League Champions." "Balfour 14K" is engraved on the reverse. These pendants were produced exclusively for the players' wives and female staff members (although not all receieved one). As such, they are actually rarer than their ring counterparts. Not surprisingly, its provenance can be traced directly to the family of a Yankee executive (although for privacy reasons we are not providing the name of the consignor). This is not only the first example of a 2003 Yankees American League Championship pendant we have offered, but just the second we can recall seeing at public auction. It is also one of the most attractive pendants dating from club's late 1990 to early 2000 dynasty. Near Mint condition. Together with an eighteen-inch gold chain. SOLD FOR $3,600
