1952 New York Yankees Large-Format Team Photo
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $240
Large-format photograph capturing thirty-three members of the 1952 World Champion New York Yankees, including Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Phil Rizzuto, Johnny Mize, Casey Stengel (Mgr.), Bill Dickey (coach), Billy Martin, Gil McDougald, Gene Woodling, Charley Keller, Frank Crosetti (coach), Hank Bauer, Allie Reynolds, and Ralph Houk. Facsimile signatures of each player are displayed along the bottom white base. Produced by the Verna photography studio, as noted in the bottom-left corner. These large-format photos were specially produced for the players and team employees and, as such, we have only seen a few other examples over the years. This photo has a special provenance in that it originates directly from the personal collection of Jim "Doc" Ewell, who spent more than seven decades as a major league trainer, including long stints with both the Philadelphia Athletics (he began his career with the club in 1938) and Houston Astros. It has been consigned directly by Ewell's son. The photo (19.5 x 11.75 inches), which offers exceptional clarity, displays a few minor creases (most are only visible when viewed at certain angles) and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Framed to total dimensions of 20.5 x 12.75 inches. SOLD FOR $240
