1946 Brooklyn Dodgers "Phantom" World Series Program
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $240
Phantom World Series program, produced in anticipation of the Dodgers winning the National League pennant in 1946. At the end of the regular season, the Cardinals and Dodgers finished tied for first place in the National League, requiring the scheduling of the Major League's first-ever pennant playoff series. Unfortunately for Brooklyn fans, the Cardinals beat the Dodgers in two straight games in the best-of-three series, clinching the pennant for St. Louis. Very few of these phantom programs, from this "World Series that never was," have survived as reminders of the lost opportunity. The program (9 x 12 inches) displays partially detached covers, slight staining along the top portion that affects both covers and all of the interior pages, minor edge tears, and foxing. In Good to Very Good condition.
