1927 World Series Ticket - Game 1 at Pittsburgh
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,200
World Series ticket stub issued for Game 1 of the 1927 World Series held at Forbes Field.
The 1927 World Series, which matched the fabled New York Yankees against the Pittsburgh Pirates, seemed almost anticlimactic, given the Yankees dominance during the regular season. Led by Ruth and Gehrig, the team's vaunted "Murderers' Row" lineup belted out a then-record 158 home runs and led the league in virtually every offensive category. Although the Pirates featured a formidable lineup themselves, led by the famed Waner brothers, Paul and Lloyd, they proved no match for the "Bronx Bombers." The Yankees easily dispatched their National League rivals in four straight games, thus forever earning them the unofficial title of baseball's all-time greatest team. The ticket stub (2.25 x 4.5 inches) is in Good condition overall, with a few creases and small areas of light discoloration along the borders.
