1902-1911 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet Cy Young
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,600
Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Extremely rare W600 Sporting Life cabinet card of legendary Hall of Famer Cy Young as a member of the Boston Americans. Young is one of the key Hall of Famers from this extremely substantial cabinet-card set, which is one of the highest-quality baseball-card issues ever produced. Two different variations of Young exist within the W600 set, and the offered example is the earlier of the two, bearing a specific 1902 date on front from the earliest days of the set's production. This is a superb example of one of the most impressive of all Young cards. This card presents far better than suggested by its technically accurate grade. Crisp, flawless image area, light wear to the four corners, and free of any creases or major wrinkles. It has been downgraded due to light staining, consistent with that caused by exposure to moisture, along the borders of the cabinet. It is not immediately apparent against the dark border but is more clear against the white nameplate and blank reverse. Despite these condition issues, this cabinet remains an exceptionally attractive example of one of the best of all Cy Young cards, and would be a significant addition to any serious Hall of Fame or prewar-card collection.
