Circa 1915 Ty Cobb and Joe Jackson Full-Size Decal Bats
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,560
Pair of desirable full-size J. F. Hillerich & Son Co. decal bats, featuring Ty Cobb and Joe Jackson, respectively, dating from the 1911-1916 manufacturing period. 1) Ty Cobb decal bat model "40 T. C. J." (junior model). The decal features a portrait image of Cobb displayed between the words "Louisville" and "Slugger." Directly below is Cobb's facsimile signature and the printed advertisement "Has Led The American League Six Years With This Model." Cobb led the American League in batting for nine consecutive seasons beginning in 1907, thus conclusively dating this bat to 1913. The decal is approximately 90% complete, but, like the bat itself, displays moderate-to-heavy wear throughout, including a few abrasions, chips, and scratches. Overall, the decal grades "5/6" (on a scale of "1" to "10"). The bat (31.75 inches) exhibits evidence of former use, including deadwood, and is in Good condition. 2) Joe Jackson decal bat model "40 J. J". The decal features a portrait of Jackson, framed on either side by the words "Louisville" and "Slugger," below which is Jackson's facsimile signature. The decal is approximately 80% complete and displays wear, including abrasions and minor fissures due to grain separation. Overall, the decal grades "4/5." The bat (34 inches) displays heavy wear, including deadwood, which is indicative of former use. The letters "B & O R R" (Baltimore and Ohio Railroad) are stamped on the back of the barrel, which suggests that this bat was used for recreational purposes by railroad employees or by the company team. In Good condition overall. Total: 2 bats. SOLD FOR $1,560
