Circa 1915 Walter Johnson Original News Photo
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $360
Tremendous high-quality original news photo capturing baseball's fabled "Big Train," Walter Johnson, warming up on the sidelines. This is an outstanding image, by any measure one of the finest we have ever seen! Johnson's name is written on the reverse in pencil, as is a separate editorial notation. A remnant of the original paper news caption remains affixed to the reverse. Although undated, the style cap worn by Johnson here was only used by the Washington Senators between the years 1912 and 1915. The photo (5 x 7 inches) displays a tiny pinhole in the upper and lower right corners, as well as three tiny corner creases and a tiny area of surface-paper loss on the reverse; otherwise it remains in Excellent condition. Accompanied by an LOA from the highly respected photo experts at RMY Auctions designating it as a "Vintage 1" photo (the LOA also dates the photo to the latter part of the four-year span 1912 to 1915 due to the type of photographic paper upon which it is printed).
