Circa 1915 Connie Mack News Photo Taken by George Grantham Bain
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $540
Extraordinary original news photo of Hall of Fame manager Connie Mack taken by renowned baseball photographer George Grantham Bain. The haunting image captures Mack, who is nattily attired in his customary suit and straw hat, seated in the dugout as he stares pensively at the camera. "Connie Mack" is printed along the top of the photo (the name was actually etched into the negative). The photo displays flawless clarity and is one of the most striking Mack photos we have ever seen. The reverse features both a "Bain News Service" and "Culver Service" stamp on the reverse, as well as a "Culver Service" label. In 1948 the Library of Congress purchased over 40,000 of Bain's glass-plate negatives and nearly 50,000 of his photographic prints from the Culver Archives. Today, they permanently reside in the the Library's George Grantham Bain Collection. The photograph (4 x 4.75 inches) is in apparent Excellent to Mint condition and has been beautifully matted and framed to total dimensions of 8.25 x 9.25 inches. SOLD FOR $540
