1876 Boston (vs. Chicago) National League Scorecard - National League Inaugural Season - With George Wright, Cap Anson, and A. G. Spalding!

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $6,600

Exceedingly rare fold-over scorecard issued for a game between the Chicago White Stockings and the Boston Red Stockings dating from the National League's inaugural 1876 season. The preprinted lineups include Cap Anson, Al Spalding, Deacon White, Ross Barnes, and Cal McVey for Chicago, and George Wright, Jim O'Rourke, Andy Leonard, Tim Murnane, and John Morrill for Boston. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 5-1 Chicago victory on May 30th. The current record for each of the eight teams in the league is featured on the front cover, while an advertisement for a Boston clothing store appears on the back cover. The printing along the front edge of the scorecard also heralds the remaining two games of the three-game series against Chicago on Saturday, June 1st, and Monday, June 3rd. The Chicago White Stockings were the league champions in 1876, finishing the season with a record of 52-14, which was fifteen games better than fourth-place Boston. Any and all items dating from the first year of the National League are extremely rare and of special note. This is only the second 1876 National League scorecard we have offered (and just the third we have seen) in the past ten years. The scorecard (5.5 x 7 inches, unfolded) displays only minor wear on the front cover and is in Excellent to Mint condition overall.
