Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,700
This collection of autographed Perez-Steele postcards is comprised of signed examples from four different sets. A total of seventy signed cards are featured in the collection, including six Mickey Mantles. All of the cards are in Near Mint condition and have been signed on the front in blue Sharpie, with the signatures grading "10." The collection is comprised of the following.
1) 1989 Perez-Steele Celebration Postcards. Near-complete set (43 out of 44 cards; missing only #18 Catfish Hunter for completion), minus the checklist. Thirty-eight of the cards have been signed by the respective Hall of Fame player: Aaron, Aparicio, Banks, Bell, Bench, Berra, Boudreau, Chandler, Dandridge, Dickey, Doerr, Ferrell, Gehringer, Herman, Irvin, Kaline, Kell, Killebrew, Kiner, Lemon, Leonard, Lopez, Mantle, Marichal, Mathews, McCovey, Mize, Musial, Reese, Robinson, Sewell, Slaughter, Snider, Spahn, Stargell, B. Williams, T. Williams, and Yastrzemski. (The cards of Lefty Gomez, Judy Johnson, and Bill Terry in the set could not have been signed; they both had passed away prior to the issue of the set.) The Roy Campanella card in the set displays a stamped facsimile signature.
2) 1990 Perez-Steele Master Works Postcards. Only Series 1, consisting of twenty-five cards, is represented here. (Series 2, which also contains twenty-five cards was issued in 1992; the issue is complete at fifty cards.) Each player included in Series 1 was featured on five different postcards, thus a total of five different players are represented in this grouping (five signed cards for each player): Gehringer, Mays, Mantle, Snider, and Spahn.
3) 1980-2001 Perez-Steele Hall of Fame Postcards. Only the seventh series, consisting of eight cards (# 177-184), is represented here (the set is complete at 260 cards). The six signed examples in this group are those of Aaron, Chandler, F. Robinson, Kell, Marichal, and B. Robinson.
4) 1985-1995 Perez-Steele Great Moments. Only one card from the 108-card set is represented here: #62 Catfish Hunter.
Also included in this collection are three Nolan Ryan signed items: two Gateway cachets (1990 and 1991), each signed on the front in blue ink (grading "10") and a September/October 1991 issue of Legends Sports Memorabilia magazine, signed on the cover in blue Sharpie ("10"). The cachets are in Near Mint condition; the magazine is in Excellent condition. Total: 73 signed items (70 Perez-Steele cards and 3 Nolan Ryan items). LOA from James Spence/JSA.
