1889 A17 Allen & Ginter World's Champions Album

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,080

Second Series 1889 Allen & Ginter premium album features all fifty cards from the N29 Allen & Ginter set including eight boxers and, most important, all six baseball players (Ewing, Fogarty, Getzien, Miller, Morrill, and Ryan). The tobacco companies spared no expense in producing gorgeous full-color lithographic premium albums like this one, which were available by mail in exchange for coupons that were packed with tobacco products (in this case Allen & Ginter). This fourteen-page album (including covers) is no longer held together by the string binding (though the string could easily be replicated if desired). Each interior page has been carefully preserved and maintains all of its original, brilliant colors. Four pages grade Excellent or better, while the others would grade more modestly due to light creases or wrinkles. All the pages have light staining on the blank reverses. The front cover is missing part of the lower left corner and has spots of paper loss, along with pencil writing, at top, while the back cover is complete with light wrinkling along the edges. Relatively affordable example of this early classic, with interior pages bright, crisp, and ideal for display. SOLD FOR $1,080
