Joe DiMaggio Signed "1952 Topps Card" Painting by Wayne Prokopiak

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $480

Unique artwork of Joe DiMaggio signed by DiMaggio in black fine-point marker. This magnificent oil-on-board painting was created by noted sports artist Wayne Prokopiak, who has offered his version of what Joe DiMaggio's 1952 Topps baseball card would have looked like had he been in the set (DiMaggio retired after the 1951 season). The painting is exact in style and design with the exception of one feature. Instead of depicting a reproduction of DiMaggio's facsimile signature (as would have been displayed on the actual card, if issued) this painting features the real thing! DiMaggio has beautifully signed his name ("9/10") in the white box along the base. Signed and dated ("Wayne 92") by the artist in pencil in the lower right corner. Wayne Prokopiak, who has created many memorable sports lithographs, is best known today for his work with the Boxing Hall of Fame. Prokopiak was the official artist for the Boxing Hall of Fame during the 1990s and was annually commissioned to create the cover illustrations for its induction programs. The image area of the painting measures 4.5 x 6.5 inches (board measures 7 x 9 inches) and has been matted to total dimensions of 8 x 10 inches. Mint condition. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. SOLD FOR $480
