1961 Ted Williams Charity Dinner Program with Eleven Signatures Including Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $600
Four-page fold-over dinner program from the January 18, 1961, Union Leader Charity Fund Baseball Dinner, held at the state armory in Manchester, New Hampshire, signed on the interior by eleven attendees: Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Whitey Ford, Elston Howard, Walt Dropo, Gus Triandos, Bill Jackowski (NL umpire), Mel Allen (toastmaster), Leo Cloutier (chairman of the dinner committee), and two others (illegible). All of the signatures have been penned in blue ink and grade "9" or "10." The Union Leader is a New Hampshire newspaper that is still published today. As noted on the back cover, the Union Leader Charity Fund Baseball Dinner was first held in 1949 and always featured a bevy of big-name baseball stars, with 1961 being no exception. The 1961 dinner honored Ted Williams and the program features an illustration of the "Splendid Splinter" on the cover. The program (6 x 9 inches) displays a moderate vertical fold and two small tack-size holes near the top of the back cover. In Very Good condition overall. This is an outstanding piece signed by Mantle and Maris just prior to their historic home-run duel in 1961. LOA from James Spence/JSA. SOLD FOR $600
