1950s Multisigned Hall of Fame Ball with Baker, Cobb, Foxx, Speaker, and P. Waner
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,920
Wilson "Official" rubber-covered ball signed in green ink by the following eleven Hall of Fame players: Foxx (sweet spot), Speaker (sweet spot), Cobb, Crawford (signed "Wahoo Sam Crawford"), P. Waner, Cronin, Hubbell, Gehringer, Baker, Schalk, and Grove. Aside from some tiny bleeding affecting the first names of Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford, all of the signatures are boldly scripted and grade either "9" or "10." The ball is lightly toned; otherwise it remains in Excellent condition. This is the first autographed rubber-covered ball we can recall seeing, making it a particularly unusual Hall of Fame signed ball. It should also be noted that this ball features the signatures of a significant array of early Hall of Fame players, many of whom played during baseball's "dead ball" era. Given the fact that Speaker passed away in 1958, it seems reasonable to assume that this ball was obtained during the early 1950s (or even possibly in the late 1940s), probably at a Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Regardless of the circumstances regarding its signing, it remains both an outstanding and unique Hall of Fame signed ball. LOA from James Spence/JSA.
