1928-1931 Babe Ruth Single-Signed Ball

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,600

Official American League (Barnard) ball signed by Babe Ruth. Ruth has scripted his name in black fountain pen across the sweet spot, with the signature grading "5/6." This ball dates to the 1928-1931 manufacturing period, a time when Ruth was still baseball's reigning home-run champion. Ruth led the league in home runs in each of those four seasons, posting totals of 54, 46, 49, and 46, respectively, during that span. Despite the fact that Babe Ruth was a prolific signer, the demand for single-signed Ruth balls has always far exceeded the supply. Those dating from his active playing career, such as this example, are especially desirable. The ball is heavily toned and displays a number of moderate abrasions. Although the ball label is partially obscured, Barnard's stamped facsimile signature on the side panel remains clearly visible. In Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. SOLD FOR $3,600
