1942 World Series Sheet of Four Full Tickets Signed by Joe DiMaggio
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $960
Uncut sheet of four full and complete 1942 New York Yankees World Series tickets signed on the front in blue Sharpie (grading “9”) by Joe DiMaggio. The sheet, which features individual tickets for Games 3, 4, 5, and "X," respectively, at Yankee Stadium, is actually a sheet of extremely special proof tickets (saved by the printer as file copies or preproduction approval samples, as opposed to used to attend the games), as no section, row, or seat number is printed on any of the tickets. A small cancellation hole has been punched at both ends of each ticket. The 1942 World Series marked the sixth fall classic for DiMaggio in seven years. It also marked the only World Series that DiMaggio played in, and lost (DiMaggio played in ten World Series during his thirteen-year career). This is a fascinating and unusual DiMaggio signed item and only the second example we have ever handled (an uncut sheet of three 1936 World Series tickets signed by DiMaggio sold for $3,525 in our April 2007 auction). The sheet (7.25 x 9 inches) is partially separated along the center perforation and displays moderate wear along two corners. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall.
