1935 Ty Cobb Signed Check

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,560

Ty Cobb personal check, dated June 3, 1935, signed in black ink (grading "10") by “Tyrus R. Cobb.” The check, drawn on The Bank of California, has been made out to “Phil B. Bekcart Co.” in the amount of $7.42. While there are many Cobb checks (he saved everything and his family made literally hundreds of checks available after his passing, in exchange for a donation to the Cobb Educational Foundation, a charity that helps underprivileged children), a Cobb check is always a classic that provides his signature in a form that is very substantial and ideal for display. As such they have always been a highly prized addition to any advanced autograph collection. The check (8.75 x 3 inches) has standard bank cancellation stamps and perforations, and displays two moderate vertical and diagonal creases. In Very Good condition overall. Matted and framed together with a photographic print (13 x 10 inches) of Cobb to total dimensions of 24.5 x 27 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA.
