1936 Babe Ruth TWICE-Signed Check!- PSA/DNA
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $6,000
This particular Babe Ruth personal check is all the more desirable because Ruth has signed it TWICE: once on the front and again on the reverse as an endorsement. Of all the Ruth personal checks that exist, only a tiny percentage share this special distinction. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, with the signatures certified as "Authentic." The check, dated "Dec. 30 1936" and drawn on the Chemical Bank & Trust Company of New York, is made out to "Cash" in the amount of "$50.00" and has been signed "G. H. Ruth" on the front in blue fountain pen (grading "10"). Ruth has also endorsed the check "G. H. Ruth" on the reverse in blue fountain pen ("10"). Ruth's name is preprinted along the left border. Many years ago several hundred Ruth checks originating from the family appeared on the market all at once. These have long since been absorbed and now Ruth checks are increasingly difficult to find (let alone twice-signed examples). Checks have long been a favorite of autograph collectors due to their inherent authenticity and the fact that the signatures on checks are almost always very well executed. The offered check is no exception and represents an extraordinary Ruth signed piece. The check (8.5 x 3.25 inches) displays normal bank cancellation stamps and holes, a single vertical fold in the middle, and two spindle holes (none of which affect either of the Ruth signatures). In Very Good to Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. SOLD FOR $6,000
