1931 New York Yankees Team-Signed Ball with Ruth and Gehrig
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $8,400
Spalding "Babe Ruth Home Run Special" baseball signed in black ink by nineteen members of the 1931 New York Yankees: Babe Ruth (sweet spot, grading "7," affected by a few tiny abrasions), Gehrig ("9/10"), Lazzeri, Ruffing, Gomez, Sewell, Dickey, Pennock, Jorgens, Pipgras, Rhodes, Byrd, Lary, Chapman, Cooke, Wells, Hoag, Weaver, and McEvoy. Signatures range from "4" to "9/10," averaging "7." This is an outstanding example of a Yankees team ball featuring Ruth and Gehrig that will always be recognized as one of memorabilia collecting's great classics. The 1931 Yankees club boasted an incredible nine future Hall of Famers on its roster, eight of whom are featured here on this ball (only Coombs is absent). The ball has been coated with a moderate layer of protective shellac which displays a number of small abrasions throughout. The manufacturer's stampings remain bold and legible. In Very Good condition overall. This is an outstanding mid-grade 1930s Yankees ball, ideal for display, featuring far better-than-average signature examples for nearly all of the team members. Full LOA from PSA/DNA and LOA from James Spence/JSA. SOLD FOR $8,400
