1928 Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals Signed Ball with Hack Wilson and Rabbit Maranville
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,040
Official National League (Heydler) ball signed in blue fountain pen by various members of both the 1928 St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs (twelve signatures total). The Cubs signatures are those of Hack Wilson, Kiki Cuyler, Charlie Grimm, Mike Gonzalez, Clyde Beck, Charlie Root, Cliff Heathcote (sweet spot), Woody English, and Johnny Butler. The Cardinals are represented by Rabbit Maranville, Jim Bottomley, and Ernie Orsatti (sweet spot). Signatures range from "5" to "9," averaging "7/8." The Cardinals captured the National League pennant in 1928, which was Maranville's only full season with the club, but were swept by the powerful New York Yankees in the World Series. The ball is moderately soiled, indicative of its having possibly been game used, and has been coated with a layer of protective shellac. In Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. SOLD FOR $2,040
