Ross Youngs 1917-1926 News Photo Collection (20) Including Two with Babe Ruth

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,560

Collection of twenty vintage news photos originating from Youngs' personal collection. Naturally, all feature Youngs, either alone or with some of his Giants teammates, with the exception of two photos picturing Babe Ruth. Although many do not include the original news caption or feature date stamps on the reverse, Youngs' major league career only spanned the years 1917-1926, thus conclusively dating the photos to that ten-year period. Among the highlights are three game-action shots from the World Series (two from 1921 and the other from 1923), a photo from the 1924 World Tour picturing both the Chicago White Sox and New York Giants posing together in England, an undated New York Giants team photo picturing a black ballplayer in uniform with the Giants, a photo of Youngs sliding into third base with McGraw on the coaching lines, and two photos of Babe Ruth (one sliding and the other warming up on the sidelines). Thirteen of the photos measure approximately 8 x 10 inches, with the other seven measuring slightly smaller (approximately 8 x 6 inches). All of the photos display a news-service stamp on the reverse, with the majority (16) issued by "International Newsreel." As is common for working press photos, nearly all display a number of flaws, including, but not limited to, edge tears, chips, minor creases, and slight trimming. In Good to Very Good condition overall, with a few either slightly worse or better. All of the photos can be viewed on our website. Consigned directly from the Ross Youngs Family. Total: 20 photos. SOLD FOR $1,560
