1923 Ross Youngs New York Giants Sterling-Silver Pass in Original Box

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,920

New York Giants sterling-silver season pass, designed in the shape of a baseball, issued to Ross Youngs for the 1923 season. Complete with its original jeweler's box. From 1919 through 1931 the New York Giants issued beautifully designed sterling silver passes to season-ticket holders and select dignitaries. Those passes, uniquely designed in a variety of shapes and baseball motifs (usually in relief), entitled the bearer to entry to every Giants game at the Polo Grounds during the respective season. All are rare, especially those from the earlier years of the series. The fact that this pass was issued to future Hall of Fame outfielder Ross Youngs naturally adds to the tremendous significance of this example! The front of the offered pass (1.25 inches in diameter) bears the team name ("Giants"), the notation "Worlds Champions 1921-1922," and the name of the team owner ("Chas. H. Stoneham Pres."). The reverse features the engraved name of the recipient ("Ross Youngs"), the official pass number ("598"), the year ("1923"), and name of the manufacturer ("Lambert Bros., N.Y."). The pass displays heavy tarnishing consistent with its age (it could easily be polished to perfection if desired), a tiny indentation on the front, and moderate-to-heavy wear. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Accompanied by its original Lambert Bros. box. This is the first time we can recall ever seeing the original box for one of these Giants sterling-silver passes, making this a truly exceptional example. The box (1.75 x 1.75 x .5 inches) displays a few tears to the side flaps on the lid and is in Very Good condition overall. Consigned directly from the Ross Youngs Family. SOLD FOR $1,920
