1968 Topps Complete Set Minus One (597/598)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,160

17% Nr/Mt or better, 25% Ex-Mt, and 58% Ex (including 4% Vg-Ex). Presented is an extremely clean and attractive complete set minus one (missing #177 Ryan for completion) of 1968 Topps, highlighted by stunning high-grade examples of Mickey Mantle and the rookie card of Hall of Famer Johnny Bench, among many other key high-grade highlights. The 1968 Topps set also includes the extremely popular “combo” cards featuring more than one player with #480 Superstars (with Roberto Clemente), #490 Superstars (Harmon Killebrew, Mickey Mantle, and Willie Mays), and #530 Bird Belters (Frank and Brooks Robinson). This is a beautiful set with many extremely high-grade cards. Seventeen cards are professionally graded and encapsulated (twelve SGC and five PSA). Keys: #20 B. Robinson (Ex), 45 Seaver (PSA NM-MT 8), 50 Mays (SGC EX/NM 80), 80 Carew (Ex-Mt), 100 Gibson (Nr/Mt), 110 Aaron (Ex), 150 Clemente (Ex), 220 Killebrew (SGC EX+ 70), 230 Rose (Ex+), 240 Kaline (Ex), 247 Bench RC (PSA NM 7), 250 Yastrzemski (Vg-Ex+), 280 Mantle (PSA NM+ 7.5), 330 Maris (Ex-Mt), 355 Banks (Vg-Ex), 408 Carlton (SGC NM 84), 480 Manager's Dream (PSA NM 7), 490 Superstars (PSA MINT 9 [OC]), 500 F. Robinson (Ex+), 520 Brock (Vg-Ex), 528 Tigers (Ex), 530 Bird Belters (Ex-Mt), and 575 Palmer (SGC NM/MT 88). Eight commons are graded SGC MINT 96: #488, 491, 519, 527, 532, 540, 565, and 587. Clean and crisp with the usual number of mostly minor centering problems or light corner touches, which accounts for the downgrades on almost all the cards graded Ex or Ex-Mt. The total SMR value for just sixteen of the seventeen graded cards (factoring in the two half-grades at the lower whole-grade level and not including the one qualified card or the 580 ungraded cards!) is $921. Total: 597 cards. SOLD FOR $2,160
